The Five Perfect MastersMeher Baba had a seven-year period of spiritual awakening with the five perfect masters of the time: Hazrat Babajan, Upasni Maharaj, Sai Baba of Shirdi, Tajuddin Baba and Narayan Maharaj. In January 1922. Meher Baba was destined to leave Upasni Maharaj and Sakori and begin his Universal work. A few minutes before his departure, Upasni Maharaj called him into his hut and with folded hands proclaimed, “Merwan, you are Adi Shakti – the Primal Force! Meher Baba leaves his ashram Manzil e Meem in Bombay in 1923 and moves to Ahmednagar, visits and establishes Meherabad in June 1923.Video: Meherabad Beginning Meherabad — The Beginning Meherabad: Establishment of the Free Medical Dispensary 1925 provided basic treatment and medicines to villagers who otherwise had little or no access to healthcare. Meher Baba founded several schools as part of his early work there. Beginning in 1925–1926, these included primary schools for children from nearby villages and residential schooling for boys. Instruction was provided free of charge and emphasized basic literacy alongside moral discipline and a spirit of service. Demonstrating that spiritual life must be grounded in the upliftment of the poor and uneducated. These schools were gradually closed.. Recollections of the Prem Ashram appear in the book "The Boys: Prem Ashram Days with Meher Baba.” Today there is an active Meher English School at Meherabad, operated under the Avatar Meher Baba Perpetual Public Charitable Trust. The school provides English medium education for children from Meherabad and surrounding villages. While separate in time from the schools Meher Baba founded in the 1920s, it continues the same underlying purpose of offering education as a form of service, particularly for families with limited access to schooling.
MEHERA IRANI AND MEHER BABA When Mehera was eleven, a school friend had taken Mehera to meet Babajan, saying that the ancient woman would grant any wish she asked. Babajan inquired of Mehera, "What do you want, my daughter?" Mehera spontaneously replied, "I wish I had a horse!" Babajan gazed upward into the sky and muttered, "A beautiful one ... All the world will look at him ... All the world will love him." Babajan's words were usually enigmatic, and Mehera could not understand what she meant. She forgot all about it, but a few months later, to her amazement her mother suddenly bought her a beautiful white horse. Mehera and a few others began staying more permanently under Meher Baba’s direct daily supervision. Baba regarded Mehera as the purest soul and the one closest to him spiritually. By 1927, this phase marked the foundation of the women's ashram, and Meherabad became the first spiritual center where Baba lived with both male and female disciples in complete separation, under his strict spiritual guidance.

He selected Nasik as the place to create a temporary ashram to house his Western disciples, especially the women, about two miles outside Nasik. In early 1938, Baba relocated the women from Nasik to Meherabad.

Baba and a small group of women mandali. First to Bangalore and then they traveled extensively to remote villages, holy sites and sacred mountains, including places like Mount Abu, Rishikesh, and Tirupati. Baba often contacted masts in various locations. The women mandali underwent rigorous spiritual training during this time, living under strict discipline and complete obedience to Baba’s instructions. The Blue Bus phase came to a close by early 1941.
Life at Upper Meherabad gradually transitioned to Meherazad between 1943 and 1944, with the final move to Meherazad completed in May 1944. After Meher Baba entered the Hyderabad cave and began what he later described as Manonash (the annihilation of the mind), his inner work continued through a series of prolonged seclusions and semi-seclusions at several locations over roughly nine years. MANONASH Manonash is real samadhi [bliss] for the mind. Mind is uprooted and then its death occurs and the ego immediately feels: "I am everything, and have no concern with the body." At that moment, either the shock is too strong and the body falls, or the momentum keeps the body for some time, and then it falls, as in the case of the majzoobs. Real Ego is the Goal. Some who reach the Manonash stage and have to perform certain duties continue to remain in their body with an impressionless mind to help others in seeing themselves in everyone. Mastery in Servitude

Meher Baba's work was not confined to words or teachings—it was lived through tireless, often hidden service to those most forgotten by society. He sought out masts—God-intoxicated souls who had become inwardly absorbed in divine consciousness and appeared outwardly disoriented. Baba would travel for days across remote villages and crowded cities to find them and perform what he called "inner work" to help their spiritual states. Many of these masts recognized Baba instantly as the Beloved they inwardly knew. He gave personal care to lepers, bathing them, feeding them, washing their feet with his own hands. Meher Baba Darshans When Meher Baba had darshans—public gatherings where people could come into his presence, an intimate exchange of love. He embraced saints and sinners alike, often reminding people that God dwells equally in every heart. In his silence, people felt understood, uplifted, and transformed. All were expressions of the same One Reality—whether a wandering mast, a child in rags, or a pilgrim seeking darshan. His life was a living example of love in action—silent, inclusive, and beyond all creed. MEHER BABA - “Man’s inability to live God’s words makes the Avatar’s silence more eloquent than all words spoken by man.” Starting July 10, 1925, Meher Baba began observing silence. For the first several years of his silence, Baba communicated using a wooden alphaet board. Baba gradually gave up the use of the board. By the mid 1930's he began relying more on hand and finger gestures. By 1954, Meher Baba stopped using the alphabet board entirely and communicated only through gestures and facial expressions, often interpreted by his close disciples, usually Eruch. -------------------------------------------

GOD SPEAKS and THE DISCOURSES In August 1953, in Dehradun, Meher Baba began dictating his major book,"The Theme of Creation and its Purpose." He dedicated God Speaks To the Universe, the Illusion that sustains Reality. "You will find 'God Speaks' a unique book. Never before have such things been disclosed by me. You will understand through your mind the why and wherefore of your being. After reading it, do not pretend that you are God. Unless and until you have had experience, it is nothing." Meher Baba 1955 Meher Baba dictated two books: "God Speaks" and "The Discources" additionally : "Infinite Intelligence". The White Horse Avatar Avatar means "descent", and refers to a descent of the divine into the material realm of human existence. This present time is known as the 'Kaliyuga' ( which started upon the death of Krishna). The sign or symbol of the Avatar of this 'Yuga' is the Avatar seated on a white horse. Mehera's horse Sufi arrived at Meherabad one day. The horse was pure white and very beautiful. A section of the Mess Quarters was converted into a stable where the horse was kept. Although quite handsome, Sufi proved to have a devil of a spirit! Soon after he was brought, Baba applied vermilion to his forehead and sat on him for a minute. When Baba honored her horse in this manner, the men mandali realized the Master's unique love for Mehera. MEHERABAD: MEHER BABA'S SAMADHI SAMADHI VISIT page His tomb (Samadhi) is a place of pilgrimage. Meher Baba taught that the goal of all beings was to gain consciousness of their own divinity, and to realize the absolute oneness of God. Meher Baba described the phenomenal world as illusory and that the Universe is imagination. God exists, and each soul is God passing through imagination in order to realize its own divinity. He advised how to attain God-realization, and thereby escape the wheel of birth and death. SAMADHI VISIT MEHER BABA: FLY TO PUNE: Ahilyanagar is a two hour drive from Pune. Meherabad is a 20 minute drive from Ahilyanagar. There is a train station. It is possible to hire a taxi in Pune to visit the Samadhi for darshan, a 2 hour drive. You can stay in Ahilyanagar (formerly Ahmadnagar) . The Samadhi on the hill is open for darshan to all: 6:30 AM to 8 PM. THE STATE OF PARATPAR PARABRAHMA : In this state of Beyond-Beyond, God [Paramatma] is completely independent and absolutely free. He cannot even be called God in this state. This state is the root, the base, the source, but it is not used. It is an important state. THE PARABRAHMA STATE: This is the second important state of God. In this state, all God's attributes exist. It is full of infinite bliss, infinite beauty, infinite love; it is the state of complete [divine] consciousness. It is devoid of the first state — God's unconscious state. And to say it is the Paramatma state would also not be correct. JIVATMA STATE : This is the third state of God, of you all sitting here — the drops of the same Infinite Ocean. SHIVATMA STATE : When the jivatma is merged in Paramatma, he becomes Shiva. You are all drops. Paramatma is the Ocean. When this jivatma bubble bursts and becomes one with the Ocean, it is Shivatma. In others words, it is the state either of the Perfect Master or a majzoob. This soul can never have a fall from his highest divine state. This is the state of the seventh plane [Brahma Bhuwan] and is called the Shiva state. But when the Shivatma regains gross consciousness of the world, he is called the Sadguru. The Ever-Conscious Paramatma of this fourth state, who comes down on this gross plane age after age when maya is at its height, is called the Avatar. He is always the One, the same in whatever age and under whatever name he might have descended — Ram, Krishna or Buddha.
